Approved Professional Standards Notice

Representation of Chiropractic Techniques

The Office of the Dean of PALMS CHIROPRACTIC COLLEGE issues the following notice to clarify the professional standards associated with chiropractic techniques and their representation in public or professional settings.

Chiropractic spinal adjustment is a specialized clinical procedure that is taught within a structured professional curriculum including:

• Functional anatomy

• Neurophysiology

• Spinal biomechanics

• Clinical assessment and diagnosis

• Patient safety and risk management

• Evidence-informed practice

The techniques taught within the official curriculum of the college are delivered through supervised academic and clinical training designed to ensure safe, responsible, and professional patient care.

From time to time, graduates and practitioners may attend external seminars or workshops where spinal manipulation or so-called “HVLA cracking techniques” are demonstrated or taught in short-term formats.

The College wishes to clarify that such external programs are not part of the official chiropractic curriculum of PALMS CHIROPRACTIC COLLEGE, nor are they evaluated or endorsed by the institution unless formally stated.

Accordingly:

Techniques obtained through external seminars, workshops, or private courses do not represent the official teachings, clinical standards, or educational program of this College.

Furthermore, the public representation of chiropractic techniques through social media demonstrations or promotional materials should reflect the professional standards and ethical responsibilities of a healthcare profession.

The emphasis of chiropractic care is not the production of audible joint sounds, but rather the restoration of functional spinal mechanics and the support of normal neurological communication within the body.

Graduates and affiliated practitioners are therefore encouraged to ensure that public communication, clinical demonstration, and educational promotion reflect the scientific integrity, patient safety principles, and professional dignity of chiropractic practice.

PALMS CHIROPRACTIC COLLEGE remains committed to maintaining high educational standards and to supporting the responsible development of chiropractic professionals.

Official Statement on Professional Representation of Chiropractic in Social Media

In recent years, social media has become a powerful tool for communication and professional visibility. It allows healthcare providers to educate the public, share clinical insights, and promote greater awareness of the value of chiropractic care.

However, with this opportunity comes professional responsibility.

Recently, an increasing number of posts circulating on social media focus primarily on dramatic “cracking” or “popping” adjustment videos. While such content may attract attention, it can also unintentionally misrepresent the true nature, philosophy, and scientific foundation of chiropractic.

Chiropractic is not defined by sound.

The audible cavitation sometimes produced during an adjustment is merely a physiological by-product of joint movement. The purpose of chiropractic care is not to create sound or spectacle, but rather to restore functional spinal biomechanics and support optimal neurological communication within the body.

When chiropractic is portrayed primarily as entertainment or as a display of dramatic techniques, it risks diminishing the depth of the profession. In such cases, the practitioner may appear large while the science and clinical discipline of chiropractic appear small.

As graduates and representatives of this institution and of the chiropractic profession, we share a collective responsibility to uphold the dignity, credibility, and scientific integrity of our field.

Professional communication with the public should emphasize:

• Patient safety

• Clinical reasoning and neurological principles

• Respect for the patient–doctor relationship

• Evidence-informed practice

• The broader health philosophy of chiropractic care

Chiropractic has a proud history built upon the principles of spinal health, nervous system function, and the body’s inherent capacity for regulation and healing. These principles deserve to be communicated with clarity, professionalism, and respect.

We therefore encourage all graduates and practitioners associated with this institution to represent chiropractic in a manner that reflects the true depth and responsibility of the profession, rather than reducing it to visual spectacle.

The reputation of chiropractic is built not only in the clinic, but also in the way it is presented to society.

Let us ensure that our public communication elevates the profession, protects the public understanding of chiropractic science, and preserves the dignity of the work entrusted to us.
